| CONTEMPLATIONS :: Guenther Rabl :: Unthruthfulness |
|
They play a bad game with us artists: As long as we, under the mobilization of all our powers, are endeavored to be truthful in all matters, even the most unimportant ones, they at least grant the respect that they give to unintelligible fools they consider as harmless. However, if one allows only the smallest insincerity to be committed, they immediately treat us as one of their own, which means: without respect. (According to the motto: He’s lying, consequently, he is one of us; he doesn’t have to act as if he were something better …). Then again, the small “untruthfulnesses” arise as soon as one no longer begins to poke his nose into everything. Most of the everyday, official, bureaucratic disputes cannot be handled at all on the level they place themselves. (Getting involved in the alternatives they present is already untruthful in itself). However, one cannot constantly debate on principles when dealing with officials and paper-pushers. (Eventually that would be even too much for a saint, and he would then die, overstressed by the midge plague). If one still has anything else to do in the world, one has to sometimes address these things more coarsely. Those bums should think what they want to. |
