CONTEMPLATIONS :: Guenther Rabl :: Presentable Grating

Electro-acoustic music has pushed instrumental music out of many areas and will perhaps totally supplant it. I, who have no longer dealt with instrumental music for years already, regret this development. However, as long as instrumental music limits itself to reproduction and interpretation, as long as no new, non-electronic musical instruments that make concessions to today’s technical demands on sound and playing are built, then it deserves this fate.
It is simply unspeakably ridiculous to attempt to create a sound on a violin that can be produced simpler and more beautiful on the next-best piece of tin. Meanwhile, this grating has indeed become presentable, but the tinplate hasn’t.
